About us

Sue and Lou Quilters is a small cooperative of two ladies that live near each other in the village of Bethersden in Kent, England who have a love of patchwork and quilting. Sue was taught to quilt 15 years ago and Louise is a recent quilter taught by Sue.

We have a deep love of sewing and material and make treasured forever heirloom quality pieces. All our our quilts, wall hangings, cushions, bags etc. are designed, machine-pieced, quilted and assembled in our homes. They are all individual and unique, traditionally made to be passed on as family heirlooms.

You will see items on our website for sale but we also love to take orders and commissions for quilts etc. For a truly bespoke handmade product using your chosen colour palettes. You will never see two pieces alike.

Everything we make is made with 100% cotton fabrics and can be washed on a cool cycle and ideally line dried.

Sue Gammon

Introducing Sue Gammon – I am the first half of Sue & Lou

I am a retired community cardiac nurse being retired for 4 years now.

My love of sewing and patchwork probably started in the 1970’s with the traditional hand sewn hexagons. I remember making a brown and beige quilt for my bedroom, very fashionable for its time. I then had a gap of sewing whilst I did my nursing and bringing up a family.

About 15 years ago I saw a local advert advertising patchwork and quilting in my local village hall. I rang up to enquire as I now felt I had more time as the family had grown up. The lady on the phone explained I would need a sewing machine, a cutting mat and a rotary cutter along with rulers.

Well I thought I should give it a go and here we are 15 years later absolutely loving my hobby.

I now have a sewing room dedicated to my hobby. My family and friends have benefited over the years but there are only so many quilts and cushions you can give as gifts. So here we are starting up a small business with a dear friend Louise who has the same love of fabrics and sewing.

We find we compliment each other with her love of modern and design and mine of traditional, making heirloom pieces for the future generations.

Beside the Sea for Henry

Introducing Louise Stubbs – I am the second half of Sue & Lou.

I started making quilts in 2022 under the guidance of Sue. I already had some sewing skills learned from school and my mother but wanted to learn how to quilt so I asked my good friend Sue if she could teach me.

I studied Graphics at Nene College Northampton and went on to be a Website Designer and Webmaster way back at the beginning of the World Wide Web for a company called “Smartways Technology”.

My husband and I moved to Kent in 1999 and I then became an IT Manager, Graphic & Website Designer for “Hobbs Parker LLP”.

Whilst my son was at primary school I became a Childcare Assistant at a local playschool and once he moved on to secondary school I then setup my own gardening business “Thyme for Gardening” with my husband which we still do today looking after 30 gardens in the Weald of Kent.
